As Attilio Cogodnato said, "without excess, beauty cannot exist."
Nestled in Calle Vallaresso, near the Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy, lies the only Casa Codognato jewelry boutique. This family business has been in existence for over 160 years and is praised by royals, collectors, and jewelry enthusiasts alike. Founded in 1866 by Simeone Codognato, the brand became known for its memento mori designs, attracting clients such as Gabrielle Chanel, Jean Cocteau, and Diana Vreeland.
"From the transformation of the capital to the primary destination of the Grand Tour, the jewelry of the house follows the history of Venice," says the current principal, Mario Codognato, Simeone's grandson. “Venice is the city of water, and everything reflects on water. So, you could also say that the precious stones reflect these surroundings. This city has inspired my grandfather and father's creations during their journey.”
When Attilio Codgonato assumed business leadership until 2023, he was the mastermind that introduced ancient intaglios and cameos into the designs, laying the foundation for Casa Codognato to become one of Europe's most unique jewelers. Today, Casa Codognato draws inspiration from Byzantine, Roman, and Renaissance influences. The result? Refined and maximalist baroque jewels that are celebrated in Venice and everywhere.
