There are designers who dress women, and then there is Valentino Garavani, a man who understood that clothing was never simply fabric, but an act of imagination. A world in which a woman could feel truly seen.
Born in Voghera in 1932, Valentino carried within him an instinctive devotion to beauty. By the time he opened his Rome atelier in 1959, he had absorbed the discipline of Paris and the romance of Italy, fusing the two into something the world had no precise word for, only a color: Rosso Valentino, a burning red that would become his signature and, in time, his name.
