The Art of the Ride

To celebrate our new collaboration with Vespa, several Parisian tastemakers took the scenic route through Paris, guided by Culturel Paris. Here, they reveal the city through their eyes.

To celebrate the launch of our new book and collection with Vespa, we invited Parisian tastemakers to spend a day moving through the city the way it deserves to be moved through: on a Vespa, without any particular hurry. The ride began at Assouline's Rue Bonaparte boutique, wound through the Rue de Varenne to the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris, and ended over espresso at Sant Ambroeus in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Along the way, we asked them about the Paris they know by heart.

Where do you go to read a good book? On a terrace in the sun, or in a quiet corner of the Jardin du Luxembourg.

What view never gets old? The rooftops of Paris at sunset. Even after all these years living here, it still feels a little magical.

Where do you go when you need inspiration? Walking aimlessly through Paris, watching people, window shopping, facades, details.

What is one place that still surprises you? The banks of the Seine. You think you know them by heart, then the light shifts, a barge drifts by, someone starts playing music, and everything feels different.

Where do you go to read a good book? The Jardin du Palais Royal (on a chair when I manage to find one, in the shade)

What view never gets old? The view over the quais and the Eiffel Tower from the Pont Neuf, at sunset.

What meal do you return to again and again? A beef tartare.

Where do you go when you need inspiration? Coffee table books and social media.

What view never gets old? The Louvre's Pyramid at night. It never does.

Where do you go when you need inspiration? Pinterest, and through the great icons of cinema from the '50s and '60s. Men like James Dean, who had real style and a presence you still find everywhere today.

What is one place that still surprises you? The banks of the Seine. There is always something happening, always changing.
