When Roger Federer first lifted the US Open trophy in 2004, the tennis world witnessed the beginning of a 23-year-old Swiss prodigy who would redefine the sport itself. By the time he played his last US Open match on September 3, 2019, in the quarterfinals against Grigor Dimitrov, watching him was the most coveted spectacle in the city. Ahead of this year's US Open, we pause to celebrate the incomparable Swiss player whose racquet may be retired but whose magic continues to shine in every corner of Arthur Ashe Stadium. Through these exclusive photographs from, Federer,  his book with Assouline, we witness the career-defining moments that created a legacy with a reach far beyond the boundaries of sport.
