There is a certain electricity to stepping into someone’s personal library. It is intimate without being invasive, revealing without oversharing. Los Angeles–based designer Brigette Romanek understands this instinctively. When we visited her sun-drenched home, she led us straight to her library, a space rich with personality where color and modernity coexist with quiet confidence. It is her sanctuary, and within minutes, it becomes clear why she believes a library should be the most honest room in the home.

Romanek describes her design philosophy as eclecticism with soul, anchored by what she calls the “exhale moment” when you enter a space and everything simply clicks. “I’ve always loved the color brown,” she tells us. “It’s a classic, and it’s a color that other colors really relate to. It acts as a neutral.” The result is a space that feels both considered and lived in, luxurious yet deeply personal.

As she walked us through her approach to styling, Romanek incorporated pieces from Assouline’s Library Collection, demonstrating how thoughtful objects can elevate a room without overwhelming it. Her message is clear. A library is not about perfection. It is about truth, memory, and the stories you choose to live with.
